Designed with the objective of initiating and developing a correct acclimatization process to prepare us before starting mountain expeditions of more than six thousand meters of altitude, but also to see how our body responds to altitude and enjoy these emblematic mountains seeking to combine the “accommodation process” discovering and enjoying the Central Andes.
A six-day program in which we will make progressive ascents at altitude in a controlled environment, combining hiking, mountaineering and acclimatization techniques supervised by mountain guides.
The program allows you to gradually adapt to extreme altitude conditions, improving your endurance and increasing your chances of success on higher summits.
Ideal for those seeking to maximize their performance and safety in high altitude expeditions.
The location chosen for this program is “Cerro El Plomo”: an imposing mountain located in the Andes Mountains a couple of hours from Santiago.
With an altitude of 5,424 meters it is the highest peak visible from the capital of Chile and an emblematic destination for local mountaineers.
Known for its beauty and cultural importance, “El Plomo” houses an Inca archaeological site on its summit, where a mummy of a child was discovered in 1954, which was offered in the ceremony of the “Capacocha”.
Its ascent offers spectacular scenery and a unique high mountain experience, combining adventure and history.
The access through the Cepo River valley allows a gradual ascent, with good places to camp, and the possibility of transporting our load through the services of local Arieros and their mules or pilchero horses.
It also allows us a variety of complementary routes that we can make from the camp of “Piedra Numerada” or “Federación” to the main surrounding summits: as they can be the “Cerro Bismark” or “El Cepo” or some summit of the slopes of “Cancha Carreras”.
From the base camp of El Plomo we have different alternatives to continue gaining altitude and allow our body to adapt physiologically.
One of our favorite options is the ascent of Punta Santiago, from where we can have one of the best views of the hanging glacier and the normal ascent route.
The normal routes to Punta Santiago and Plomo do not present major technical difficulties: both require the crossing of snowfields and glaciers without major exposure; they run through terrains of quite a lot of carriage and sectors in which sometimes there is no path, in addition to the altitude, so although they do not require major technical knowledge, they do demand a very good physical condition and experience in long days in the mountains or trekking.
