That will be our objective and for this, we will begin by heading to the Puyehue National Park. Although they were discovered by settlers in the early 20th century and a major hotel was built in 1940 (and destroyed on May 22, 1960), they are rarely on the road map of many visitors. We go to them on foot and then by boat. Starting on the other side of the mountain, at the foot of the Casa Blanca volcano, in Antillanca, the heart of the Puyehue National Park. Following a path that begins in the upper part of the forest (1.219 masl), we will descend to Lake Rupanco (124 masl) enjoying how the vegetation changes and adapts to different altitudes.
From the center of Antillanca we will begin our walk towards the crater “Raihuen” and then follow the slopes of Casa Blanca volcano and begin the descent to Lake Rupanco. We will walk +-12 kilometers in about 5 hours on a trail that merges into the forest, sometimes crosses very dense bushes (the “Quila”) and after or during the rains it can be muddy. We will finish the walk at the mouth of the river “Gaviotas”, from where a small boat will cross us to the hot springs and our well-deserved picnic. After relaxing our muscles we will cross the lake to find our transportation and start our return to the city.
