A volcano journey is the perfect excuse to travel and climb (or ski) the volcanoes that shaped the unique landscape of southern Chile. This carefully designed program combines mountaineering with the different services available in the area, offering diverse routes to explore the fascinating regions of Los Lagos, Los Ríos, and Araucanía by vehicle or on foot.
The challenge of ascending the Osorno, Puyehue and Llaima volcanoes in six days offers an unforgettable adventure, allowing you to discover a large part of the region and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery where these mountains are located. Although this program does not require previous mountaineering or climbing experience, it does require a very good physical condition due to the demanding days in terms of distance, altitude to gain, and physical effort. In particular, the ascents to Osorno and Llaima include the transit through glaciers and significant slopes, which adds to the experience, and to admire with special affection the unique scenic beauty of these places.
The trip is planned to begin and end in the city of Puerto Varas. However, it is possible to adapt the logistics according to the needs of the group, considering the proximity of airports and bus terminals in Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas and Temuco, facilitating the integration with the particular plans that each one may have.
Depending on the weather conditions, the routes, and the interest of the group, the program is flexible and allows you to add or modify the mountains included in the itinerary. For example, an additional day can be added to climb the spectacular Mocho-Choshuenco volcano, thus reducing the driving distance on the fourth day; or take advantage of the opportunity to climb the Casa Blanca volcano. Likewise, when the Osorno volcano does not present optimal conditions (generally towards the end of summer or autumn), it is proposed as an alternative to climb its neighboring Cerro La Picada, offering impressive views of the Vicente Peréz Rosales National Park and the Osorno volcano itself, without the need to modify the itinerary.
Each day includes private transportation and certified bilingual guides with extensive experience, who will accompany the group throughout the trip. Accommodation is provided in mountain huts and cabins, with dinner and breakfast included while we are staying in these places. This facilitates rest and recovery after each ascent.
This Volcanoes Tour represents a unique opportunity for those seeking to combine adventure, physical challenge and deep contact with nature in one of the most beautiful and dynamic areas of southern Chile throughout the year: during spring, summer, and autumn it is possible to make the ascents walking and making the most of the daylight hours and the “normally” best weather conditions; and in winter and spring it is an ideal location to enjoy ski mountaineering, skiing the most emblematic volcanoes in the area.
